Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland Boots/Shell Seminar 2006, 17 to 19/11/2006

SEMINAR
We are holding a Scottish Mountain Rescue Seminar on 17-19 November at Broomlee Centre, West Linton. Mountain Rescue, Cave Rescue, Police, Fire, Ambulance, RAF and related organisations send representative groups from all over Scotland every year for this event, which is held in a different part of Scotland each year. It is a loose collaborative event with a structure based on this year's themes of Search, Navigation, Scene of Crime and UK Civil Contingencies. Delegates will team-work to learn and exchange ideas, methods, view new concepts and be aware of inter-organisation resources. Workshops, lectures and outdoor sessions are the mechanisms used. It encourages 'hands-on' participation and approach to topics. Lectures will cover a variety of related topics eg search management, understanding missing person behaviour, use of resources, forensics, communication, first aid, helicopters, etc. The seminar commences on the evening of the Friday and runs till the mid-afternoon of the Sunday. A more detailed programme will be sent out shortly.

LOCATION

Broomlee Centre at West Linton is run by Scottish Centres Ltd as a 'camp' for youth/school and environment and is well appointed with accommodation, classrooms and full dining facilities. There is ample parking for vehicles and aircraft! For the practical elements of the seminar , We are seeking permissions for areas of ground to be used for exercises, which may occur at any time on that weekend. The Centre grounds, nearby Pentlands, Cloich Hills, and Mendick are areas which we may use for navigation and/or helicopter training and search techniques on that weekend. The exercises are non-damaging and consistent with the Scottish Countryside Access Code.

If you are interested in attending this course please contact the Secretary for further details from our contact page.
