The MOUNTAIN RESCUE COMMITTEE of SCOTLAND is the representative
and coordinating body for mountain rescue services in Scotland.
It is administered by an Executive Committee which reports to the
General Committee comprising around 60 Mountain Rescue Teams and
other organisations. It collates and analyses all mountain accident
information in Scotland and produces an annual report which is published
in the Scottish Mountaineering Club Journal. In addition, it organises
seminars, national conferences and various training courses and
also produces various publications including an in-house magazine
"CASBAG".
The MRC of S has charitable status and is funded entirely through
voluntary contributions and donations. It has long standing associations
with Shell UK, Boots Across Scotland and the Order of St. John who
provide generous financial support. It disperses its funds to Scottish
Mountain Rescue teams in respect of training and equipment requirements.
As the representing body for mountain rescue in Scotland, the MRC
of S liaises with a variety of organisations including sportscotland,
the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, the Aeronautical Rescue
Co-ordination Centre (Kinloss), the Scottish Mountain Safety Forum,
the Association of Chief Police Officers (Scotland) and the Scottish
Ambulance Service. It also maintains a number of mountain rescue
posts throughout Scotland and liaises with the Scottish Home and
Health Department in regard to the funding of first aid/medical
equipment.
